What to do After a Storm

Call your chosen contractor first.

After a major storm, it’s not uncommon for homeowners to put off dealing with the damage. We’ve worked with many homeowners who waited until they were among the last homes in their neighborhood to begin the restoration process—sometimes because they didn’t want to deal with contractors, didn’t want to open the door to salespeople, or simply weren’t sure where to start. In some cases, they finally reach out only after a leak develops or an insurance deadline is approaching.

We understand why you may want to avoid the hassle. However, we strongly encourage you to contact a contractor you trust as soon as possible after a storm. Your chosen contractor can help identify and document storm-related damage, provide guidance on the next steps, and help you understand what needs to be addressed before additional problems develop. You don’t have to wait until your entire neighborhood has new roofs—or until you have a leak—to take action. Start with a contractor you trust, and let them help you navigate the process from the beginning.

Schedule a Professional Inspection

Have your property thoroughly inspected for storm-related damage. A proper inspection should go beyond simply looking at the roof from the ground and should include areas such as roofing, flashing, gutters, siding, windows, and other exterior components and structures. Your contractor should document their findings with detailed photos and notes so you have a clear record of the property's condition.

Document the Damage

Once we complete our inspection, Titan GC will thoroughly document the storm-related damage we find. Our team will take detailed photographs, measurements, and notes of affected areas and compile the information into a comprehensive inspection report. This documentation helps establish the full extent of the damage and provides the supporting evidence needed throughout the insurance claim and restoration process.

Contact your Insurance Company

Once the damage has been documented, contact your insurance company to report the claim. Your contractor can help you understand the information you may need to provide and can assist with the documentation required for the claim. Be sure to keep your claim number and all correspondence from your insurance company for your records.

Meet With the Insurance Adjuster

Your insurance company may send an adjuster to inspect the property and evaluate the claim. Whenever possible, have your chosen contractor present during the inspection. Your contractor can point out damage that may not be immediately obvious, provide supporting documentation, and help ensure the areas identified during their inspection are addressed during the claim process.

Review the Insurance Scope

After the insurance inspection, review the estimate and scope of work carefully with your contractor. Insurance estimates may not always account for every damaged component or every requirement necessary to properly complete the restoration. Your contractor will compare the insurance scope with their inspection findings and identify any differences or missing items.

Address Supplemental Damage

If additional covered damage or necessary work is identified, your contractor can provide the insurance company with supporting documentation and request a supplement or scope adjustment. This may include additional materials, labor, code-required work, or damage that was not visible during the initial inspection. The goal is to make sure the approved scope accurately reflects the work required to properly restore the property.

Choose Your Materials and Finalize the Scope

Once the scope has been established, work with your contractor to select the appropriate materials and finalize the project. This is the time to discuss available roofing systems, colors, siding, gutters, paint, and other components. Your contractor should clearly explain what is included in the project and identify any upgrades or items that fall outside the insurance scope.

Schedule the Restoration

Before construction begins, we’ll review the project with you and make sure you understand what work will be performed. We’ll coordinate the approved scope, selected materials, project requirements, and any applicable upgrades or changes so there is a clear plan before work begins. Clear communication throughout this stage helps keep the project organized and minimizes surprises.

Schedule and Complete the Restoration

Once the project is finalized and your contract is signed, Titan GC will schedule your restoration and coordinate the entire construction process. At the time of signing, we collect all applicable payments issued by your insurance company (ACV and approved supplements), allowing us to get your project moving. We coordinate materials, crews, scheduling, and all necessary trades while keeping you informed throughout the project. Our team manages the restoration from start to finish so you can focus on your home while we handle the work.

Final Inspection and Walkthrough

When the restoration is complete, we’ll conduct a final walkthrough with you to review the finished work. We’ll address any remaining items and make sure the project has been completed according to the agreed-upon scope. We’ll also provide applicable warranties and project documentation for your records.

Finalize the Insurance Claim

Once the restoration is complete, we will help finalize the insurance portion of your project. After the required work has been completed, we’ll provide the insurance company with the final documentation and invoice needed to support the release of any applicable recoverable depreciation, helping take another step of the insurance process off your plate. We’ll make sure the necessary documentation is provided and help guide you through the final steps of closing out your claim. Once the depreciation is released, we will collect the applicable payment and finalize the project with you after verifying everything is up to your standards
